Choosing a Charity: 2012

Over the past year, you have helped us support United Family Services, the Susan G. Komen foundation and relief efforts from the Fukushima disaster in Japan.  In total we were able to give back $2775 to those in need.  With that in mind, we need your help picking a charity for 2012.  We have narrowed it down to two worthy organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte and the Humane Society of Charlotte.

Habitat Charlotte:  Habitat Charlotte was organized in 1983 and has built 1000 homes for needy families in the Charlotte area.  By utilizing the good will of local individuals and businesses Habitat Charlotte builds Energy Star certified homes and offers them to carefully selected families at zero interest.

Humane Society:  The Humane Society of Charlotte was founded in 1978 and is a “No kill of adoptable animal” shelter.  They offer a variety of services to the community but most importantly they are committed to creating “a world where there are no more homeless and unwanted animals.”

Both are noble organizations and we would be happy to contribute to either.  Let us know which one you would prefer by leaving us feedback below.  Voting will end on Sunday January 15th at midnight.

Music: Tiny Desk Concerts

Belle Terre has made it through our first big holiday season and I’m glad to report that it was wildly successful!  We are so grateful for the growth of the business and all our wonderful customers.  I shall return to blogging shortly, but in the meantime, I wanted to share a recent find.

I am likely a bit behind the times, but I just located NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts on YouTube and I am in love.  Amazing mix of artists and it just feels so wonderfully intimate.  Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros are a current obsession of mine.  As NPR commented, they seem “to exist in a blissed-out alternate universe.”  I agree….and I would like to join them.

Not your style?  You can always watch these instead: Adele, Iron & Wine, The Decemberists, Nellie McKay…. {I could go on, and on, and on…}

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Wrap-up: The Indie Craft Experience

The Indie Craft Experience Holiday Shopping Spectacular was held November 19th and 20th, 2011 at the Ambient Plus Studio in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was our first Atlanta show and only the third time I’ve ever been to Atlanta.  Wayne was unable to make it, so my sister Sara agreed to tag along and I was very glad to have her.
